Rochester, New York is one of the poorest cities in the U.S.
The child poverty rate is 42%.
Under Rochester, New York Mayor Malik Evans' watch, the city has seen some of the most horrific, and disturbing acts of violence including murders, many of which remain unsolved.
Take for example the July 28, 2024 mass shooting at Rochester's Maplewood Park, a park where I used to take my children to play.
On that day, folks had gathered for a cookout and to enjoy a beautiful summer day, when shots rang out, as dozens of people ran, while some dove for cover.
While most were able to get away, unfortunately two young women were killed in this senseless act of violence.
Tyasia Manning, 25, a City of Rochester employee, remembered for her love of children and Phylicia Council 34, who worked with special needs children, were both shot in the barrage of more than 40 bullets fired that day which also left five injured.
As I'm writing this, nearly two years after the mass shooting, the murders remain unsolved.
So why, just 3 days before the 2-year anniversary of this mass shooting, would the City of Rochester, New York and Mayor Malik Evans pay rapper
Rick Ross, or as he calls himself "The Bawse" known for his violent and misogynist lyrics, to perform at the Rochester Red Wings ESL stadium?
Yes, on July 25th, just three days before the two year anniversary of one of Rochester, New York's deadliest mass shootings, Rochester, New York Mayor Malik Evans is bringing Rick Ross to Rochester, where he will rap about drugs, guns, and murdering people.
But Rick Ross doesn't just rap about drugs, guns and killing people.
Rick Ross is also known for boasting about raping women, as well as condoning date rape.
In one of his songs Ross raps:
"Put molly all in her champagne, she didn't even know it, I took her home and I enjoyed that, she didn't even know it."
"Molly" is short for the drug MDMA.
Rick Ross is also known for violent lyrics such as one song where he raps:
"Out the passenger, lead in the automatic off / For egg or that girl, I knock your mommy and daddy off / Fuck around and knock the emblem off the Caddy off."
It's important to note that this isn't some independent concert promoter contracting Rick Ross to perform.
This is the City of Rochester, New York and Mayor Malik Evans who is bringing Rick Ross and his violent music to a city that has been plagued by violence.
It's also important to note that the July 25th concert will be held down the street from the where the mass shooting took place in Maplewood Park.
Also disturbing is that the Rochester Red Wings baseball organization, is welcoming Rick Ross to perform at their stadium.
In fact, the Rochester Red Wings are promoting the Rick Ross concert on all their social media platforms .
And can't leave ESL Federal Credit Union out, as they own the naming rights to the Rochester Red Wings, which is known as ESL Ballpark.
In other words. the words "ESL BALLPARK" will be front and center on full display as a disgusting individual named Rick Ross spews his violent, murderous, rape condoning filth on that July summer night in Rochester, New York.

So what does Rochester, New York Mayor Malik Evans think of bringing Rick Ross to town?
Well, this is what Mayor Evans said when announcing the concert:
"We're proud to host world-renowned, multi-platinum hip hop artist Rick Ross in concert at the Red Wings ESL Ballpark."
Shame on Rochester, New York Mayor Malik Evans.
Shame on the Rochester Red Wings.
And shame on ESL Federal Credit Union.
All putting profit over moral decency.
