Today, July 28, 2026 marks the two-year anniversary of one of Rochester, New York's largest mass shootings which left two young women dead, and five people injured.
Tyasia Manning, 25, a City of Rochester employee, remembered for her love of children, and Phylicia Council 34, who worked with special needs children, were both shot in a barrage of more than 40 bullets fired that day at a cookout in Maplewood Park .

And knowing very well that the anniversary was coming up, what does Rochester, New York Mayor Malik Evans do?
He brings rapper Rick Ross to town.
Rick Ross, or as he calls himself, "The Boss", is a self proclaimed drug kingpin known for glorifying and promoting violence, drugs and raping women in his music.
And so, Rochester, New York Mayor Malik Evans, who could have chosen any other performer, instead chose Rick Ross, as the one he wanted to come to his city.
A city that has been plagued by violence for decades.
A city where just three weeks ago, on July 4th, several people were shot including a 12-year old boy, in yet another mass shooting.
This past Saturday, July 25th, Rick Ross took the stage at the Rochester Red Wings Baseball Stadium in downtown Rochester, also known as ESL Ballpark after ESL Federal Credit Union bought the stadium naming rights.
But before Ross went onstage to the sounds of gunshots blaring from the speakers in front of a crowd of less than 1,800 people, many of whom were still soaked from the rain earlier,
Mayor Malik Evans and his wife posed for photos with Ross.
That's right.
The Mayor of a city where senseless violence has claimed countless lives, including the life of one of the Mayor's own employees, posed for photos with a disgusting individual who has made millions promoting violence and misogyny in his music.
Mayor Malik Evans even held hands with Ross!
A disgusting individual who in one of his hit songs boasts about raping a woman after drugging her:
"Put molly all in her champagne, she didn't even know it, I took her home and I enjoyed that, she didn't even know it."
"Molly" is short for the drug MDMA.
And Mayor Evans wasted no time in posting those photos to the City of Rochester, New York Facebook page, as you can see below.

As you can see below, Mayor Malik Evans also posted at least one video reel to his personal Facebook page where he wrote:
"It was a great night to welcome Rick Ross to the Roc at ESL Ballpark..."
Shame on Rochester , New York Mayor Malik Evans and the City of Rochester, New York for welcoming an individual who promotes and glorifies violence, drugs, and raping women.
Just three days before the anniversary of one of Rochester's most horrific mass shootings where two beautiful young woman were killed in broad daylight, in a park where I once would take my children to play.
