Basically, my documenting how the town I have called home for almost 20 years, and the town where I raised my children, has changed and continues to change.
Now I will be bringing the "BRIGHTON, NY IS CHANGING" series to The Davy V. Blog.
Brighton, New York is a suburb of Rochester, New York.
A small town with a population of about 37,000.
It's considered one of the hottest real estate markets in the country.
In fact, it's not only common, but pretty much a given that if you see a home for sale in Brighton, New York, you will be paying more than the asking price.
Wait, what?
Exactly what I said.
You see, the homes in Brighton, New York are so sought after that you can expect a bidding war with other buyers who want the same home you want.
And trust me, they will be more than willing to pay up.
But here is the thing about Brighton, New York that no one, including Rochester, New York's mainstream news media, AND ESPECIALLY NO REAL ESTATE AGENT WILL TELL YOU...
BRIGHTON, NY IS CHANGING, AND IT'S BECOMING GHETTO.
So what exactly do I mean by "GHETTO"?
Well, first let me be clear.
GHETTO comes in all flavors.
There's Black Ghetto.
There's White Ghetto, commonly referred to as White Trash.
And there's even Spanish or Latino Ghetto, which we Cubans commonly refer to as Chusmos or Chusmeria, or even "gente de medio pelo".
For this specific topic that I have chosen to write about, GHETTO refers to individuals who grew up in the inner city, "the hood", and move out to the suburbs, many of which were once considered nice quiet towns.
And those same individuals, a large percentage of which are uneducated, and well, GHETTO, and who to put it simply, weren't raised right, move to nice towns like Brighton, New york and bring their GHETTO ways with them.
Interestingly, I also grew up in the ghetto.
Rochester, New York's "Ghost Town".
However, the difference between those individuals and some of us, like myself, who again, also grew up in the ghetto, is that there are some of us, like myself, who despite growing up in the inner cities, we were raised right by parents who taught us RESPECT.
Some of us left the ghetto behind in search of a better life for ourselves and our families.
And we didn't bring the GHETTO with us to the nice quiet towns like Brighton, New York.
Unlike the others, who did.
Many of whom have a feeling of self entitlement and who have no respect for others.
So again, you've been warned.
whether you're looking to buy, or rent in Brighton, New York, BE VERY CAREFUL.
BECAUSE BRIGHTON, NY IS CHANGING.
AND IT'S BECOMING MORE AND MORE GHETTO.
PARKING WITH ZERO REGARD FOR OTHER TENANTS.
Believe it or not, it often starts small, with a feeling of self-entitlement and a complete disregard and lack of consideration for others. It's how communities that were once nice, start to change and become GHETTO.
