Is Rochester, NY Mayor Lovely Warren Trying To Keep Spencer Ash's Suspension On The Low?

Spencer Ash
By Davy V.

Shortly after taking office in January, Rochester, NY Mayor Lovely Warren defended her appointment of Spencer Ash, whom she named Director of Neighborhood and Business Development.

Ash, who was an attorney for the City of Rochester when he crashed his Mercedes Benz around 2:25 in the morning last summer, began arguing with Rochester Police at the scene of the accident.

According to court papers, Rochester, NY Police officer Albert Weech said that Ash "was irate and kept yelling about the damage to his vehicle."

It was then that RPD officer Weech noticed a strong smell of alcohol on Ash's breath.

A breathalyzer test showed that Spencer Ash had a blood alcohol content (BAC) level of .14.

Nearly twice the legal limit for DWI, which is .08.

The court papers also indicated that Ash was slurring his speech at the scene, had bloodshot eyes, and seemed to have a hard time maintaining balance while talking with officers.

Ash also failed other roadside sobriety tests which were administered at the scene.

On September 30th, Ash pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of driving with ability impaired (DWAI), which is a violation.

According to Rochester City Court records, Ash was sentenced to a one year conditional discharge, his drivers license was suspended for 90 days, and he was fined $300.

Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren claimed she did not know about Spencer Ash's DWI conviction when she hired him, for a not too shabby $109,000 yearly salary.

Warren also said that she would not discipline Ash.

Apparently Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren's administration has a problem with alcohol and getting behind the wheel of a car, drunk.

Leonard Redon's mugshot
On March 19, 2014, Rochester, NY Deputy Mayor Leonard Redon was arrested for driving drunk with a BAC level of .13, almost twice the legal limit.

As for Spencer Ash, according to one of my trusted sources, who asked to remain anonymous, Spencer Ash has been suspended for a disagreement with a superior.

And Rochester City officials, are not saying anything.

In fact, several FOIL requests for more information as to Ash's suspension have been denied by the City.

Sounds like another example of Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren's cover ups, and her administration's lack of transparency.

Well that's just Lovely.
